Correlation Between Obesity and Diabetes

How Obesity Can Lead to Diabetes and Ways to Prevent it

Diabetes continues to rise in the U.S. according to a recent Gallop Survey. This survey states that 26 million American have diabetes and many millions likely have diabetes but just don’t know it. This is 11.3% of the U.S. population and based on past calculation this number could rise to 37 million by 2015. These are just staggering numbers but if we look at the rise in obesity we may find some correlation.

The same study shows the obesity rate rise 1% every quarter. People that fall in the obese category are three times more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes than those below the obese level. Here are some statistics that are several years old but still are shocking.

• 58 Million Overweight; 40 Million Obese; 3 Million morbidly Obese

• Eight out of 10 over 25's Overweight

• 78% of American's not meeting basic activity level recommendations

• 25% completely Sedentary

• 76% increase in Type II diabetes in adults 30-40 yrs old since 1990

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website has more up to date numbers. In one of their reports we may be able to see just why we are seeing such an increase. The chart below shows the increase in childhood obesity.

Data from NHANES I (1971–1974) to NHANES 2003–2006 show increases in overweight among all age groups:

• Among preschool-aged children, aged 2–5 years, the prevalence of overweight increased from 5.0% to 12.4%.8, 46

• Among school-aged children, aged 6–11 years, the prevalence of overweight increased from 4.0% to 17.0%.8, 46

• Among school-aged adolescents, aged 12–19 years, the prevalence of overweight increased from 6.1% to 17.6%.8, 46

Source: http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/childhood/prevalence.html

So as we look at these statistics we see a dramatic increase in all ages and this habit that is formed in childhood is very difficult to break in the adult years.

So how does the increase in obesity correlate with the increase in diabetes? With a 10.4% increase over last two years, diabetes increases run very comparable to the obesity increases. Type 2 diabetes, which is linked to obesity and physical inactivity, accounts for 90%–95% of diabetes cases. So it is very evident that our weigh plays a significant role in the onset of diabetes.

An article on WebMD states:

"The upward trends in obesity rates almost certainly play a substantive role in the increase in diabetes rates over the same time period," the survey states. "More than one-fifth of obese adults [have diabetes]" -- or 21.2%, compared to 7.4% of non-obese people of comparable ages.

So is adding diabetic medications the best treatment for diabetes? If we have determined the root of the problem to be inactivity and obesity, then wouldn’t it make sense to treat the root of the problem rather than mask the problem with medications?

Well another article on WebMD called Diet Beats Drugs for Diabetes Prevention shows that treating the root of the problem may be a better treatment. This article talks about an ongoing study with 3,000 high-risk patients. One third of the patients in the study were asked to eat a low fat diet and engage in at least 30 minute of exercise 5 times a week. Another third was put on the diabetic drug called metformin and the final third had no changes.

To quote directly from the article, this sums it up. “Three years into the trial, Knowler and colleagues reported that diabetes incidence was reduced by a whopping 58% in the lifestyle intervention group and 31% in the metformin group, compared to people who received no intervention.” The article also states: "Weight loss is still the most important thing we have to recommend to overweight people at risk for type 2 diabetes," William C. Knowler, MD, of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK).

Medications may be needed to get your diabetes under control but as you loss the weight and start eating right it may be possible to get off. Medications have a place but they should not be used as an easy out. All medications have some sort of side effects and a healthier plan may be better for you in the long run.

As we look at these statistics it is easy to wonder why people just don’t loose the weight and be fit. If we use the numbers previously stated, just dropping some weight and exercising each day we could lower the number of people with diabetes in half or 13 million. Such an easy task makes sense but it must not be that easy. Our busy lifestyle of today make it difficult to find the time to exercise, to find the time to prepare healthy meals and find the time to teach our children to do the same. Adding proper nutrient products can help with our diet and help avoid further complication from diabetes but the exercise has to fit in your day some way.

I am a diabetic and I have found success with diet, exercise and proper nutrients. I encourage everyone to take a harder look at their lifestyle and see if they are headed towards diabetes or if they have already arrived.

A Company With True Compassion

I want to take a moment today and talk a little about Synergy Worldwide and what they stand for. I am a true believer that the synergy products work and that is why I write about them on this blog. These products have helped me control my diabetes and it is my desire to share this with others suffering from diabetes, this is why this blog is called Diabetic Help.

Synergy is a 10 year old company, that is in many different countries. Synergy was started in Japan and slowly grew to where it is today. Synergy has just hit the point were it will grow dramatically. But I don't want to just talk about how great the company is or how great the products are, I want to talk about what is driving this business.

Synergy has dedicated its business to helping others. That is what is instilled in the minds of the corporate operations people and all of the distributors.

I just attended a regional conference here in Salt Lake City, Utah. Most of this conference was all about helping people feeling better, becoming healthier and saving peoples lives. They did not spend these days just pumping a bunch of hype and flashy presentation, this conference was about helping others. Whether it is helping physically, financially or socially, it is all about helping.

Synergy has a motto of "Leave a Legacy" and this company is doing that. They participate is community and worldly humanitarian projects, they donate to the JDRF and they truly care about this motto.

I write this blog to try and help someone along the way. If my way of controlling diabetes can help someone else then I am "leaving a Legacy". It is not just about the products, it is not just about signing people up with Synergy, it is about making a difference and changing peoples lives. My goal here with Diabetic Help is to help others and change peoples lives.

If you wound like to take with me more about what I am doing or how I am controlling my diabetes, please e-mail me at spiderwealth@gmail.com. I don't want to put my phone number out here but if you e-mail me and really want to talk I will send it to you.

Most Don't Think of Diabetes Complications

As you have read from this blog, you have heard me say many times that I am surprised at how many diabetics just don't take care of their disease. I found this article on WebMD and it is saying the same thing. This article also talks about the complications and how to avoid them.

http://diabetes.webmd.com/diabetes-complications-9/risk-of-complications

Now that you have read this article you can see how important your blood flow and circulation can be. Many of the serious complications come from poor circulations and that is why I recommend Proargi 9 Plus. It increases blood flow and helps repair the damaged arteries.

If you are suffering from diabetes, you should give this a try. Click on the link below to learn more.

Why Don't We Take Care of Our Health?

I was diagnosed with diabetes two years ago and during the past two years I have become much more aware of what type of diets people have. People with diabetes can live a long healthy life with a change to their diets but I have been surprised at how many don't seem to care. I have also know other people that have health issues that the type of foods they eat make their issues worse, but still they will not change. I can understand the addiction to foods many of us have, I want to eat ice cream and drink a soda, but I guess I want to live more than indulge in sweets. I have been puzzled over this and have been asking people why they can't make the change. Most of the responses have heard are, " I am not going to let a disease run my life". Well if you continue the path you are on and don't change your lifestyle then the disease will ruin your life, not run it.

If you have read any of my other posts you will know that I have found my success with diabetes through diet, exercise and nutrients. Well I have seen people find relief from health issues from taking proper nutrients, but just like the food example, I see people stop using them when they start feeling better. It is so easy to forget how we get feeling better, whether it is diet exercise or proper supplements. People hit the desperate point of poor health and are willing to try anything, but as soon as something begins to help they drop it and go bad to the poor habits that got them to that desperate point. Again this process baffles me to see.

So I am asking my readers to help me understand why it is that human nature acts in this way?

I am not perfect in my plan, I skip exercising, I eat things I should not occasionally, but for the most part, I follow my plan for a better, healthier life.

Please comment and help me understand this cycle.

Reduce the Risks of Diabetes With a Lifestyle Change

Almost every person knows someone or has a family member with diabetes. The diets of many increase the odds for this disease. The American Diabetes Association in there 2007 ADA statement estimates 17.5 million Americans have been diagnosed with diabetes. Another 7 million Americans are undiagnosed. The ADA also estimates the yearly cost to be $174 billion. This is a staggering $11,744 per year in related costs to the individual with diabetes.
Diabetes can lead to severe complications. Blindness, heart disease, lower limb amputation and kidney damage are just a few of the major complications. The sad part of this disease is that more than half of the people in a pre-diabetes type II condition could correct their conditions with healthy diet and exercise. A healthy diet and exercise can also reduce the complication that may occur in people with diabetes. Creating a life around healthy foods and daily exercise is a must to reduce the risks associated with diabetes.

Eating a healthy diet is sometimes difficult with the types of foods that are offered in the American society. High fat high carbohydrates seem to be the quick and the cheap. Americans always seem to be in a hurry so this type of diet fits right in. The cost of eating healthy is sometimes a challenge for people with low or fixed incomes. Take a look at the cost of a salad compared to the high fat 99 cent menu at the standard fast food drive up. Any item that has low fat, low carb or healthy on the label seem to cost more than the regular item. But if everyone would look at the $11,744 per year cost associated with diabetes it may help justify the additional cost of a healthier diet.

Proper exercise has become commercialized and unreal expectations are trying to be achieved. Then finding time to follow the new exercise fads of the month is difficult. Again we are back to the fast paced life style many of us Americans live. Many believe that the club or gym is the only answer. But again we are dealing with time and money. For most with diabetes a long walk or light exercise at home may make all the difference that is needed. Too many people don’t think that complications will happen to them. So they push the limits with foods, over weight, not enough exercise and not spending the money for medications. Then the life style sets back in and before they know it the complication start. At this point it may be too late. Many of the complications of diabetes may make it difficult to exercise or control their blood sugar level as before.

I am a diabetic with type II diabetes and I have found a life style change that is keeping my diabetes in check. I slip from time to time but I continue to create a life style and don’t look at it as a big issue. Prior to being diagnosed my weight had fluctuated over fifty pounds. I would lose it and then gain it back and then lose and then gain.

I set a New Year resolution one year to change my life style and get my health in control. I continually told myself I was going to weight 190 and live a healthy life style. By June I started to have eye sight problems and gastrointestinal problems. But I continually keep telling myself I was going to get healthy. In September I was diagnosed with diabetes. When I was in with my endocrinologist he told me that if I did everything he told me, I would be healthier and more fit than I ever had. Bam like a ton of bricks! My affirmations came true.

A year later I am living a healthier and better life than I had. I have lost 65 pounds. I have reduced my medications to almost nothing. Diabetes forced me to live a healthier life. If I had only changed my life style 5 years earlier I may have never been diagnosed with diabetes.

I exercise three times a week in my home, I control what I eat and not to any extreme and take a special nutritional supplement. This is a basic lifestyle change and not some radical change that makes it impossible. Make the change workable, achievable and you too can have a healthy lifestyle. This should be for everyone not just people suffering from diabetes.

Take a look at your fast paced lifestyle and see if your are headed down the same path as me. Now may be the time to take control.

I am always willing to share my success and plan with others in hopes to provide some help.

Please e-mail me at spiderwealth@gmail.com and I will explain my plan.

My Antioxidantial Journey

This post is going to be a little long but I want to cover my journey, experimenting with my diabetes, over the past year. If you have read any of my later posted you will know that I have found success controlling my diabetes with exercise, proper eating and a strong antioxidant. Well I decided that if I am going to take a MLM product I just as well try them all and find the best one. But I wanted to find the one that helped me the most so I could share my findings with others..

Well I have tried Xango, Monivie, Noni, Acai, Zrii, Agel, Goji, Kyani and several local health store products. Most of these worked very similar and Kyani Sunrise was the one I used the longest. But with the antioxidant I was adding several other vitamins and minerals. This worked very well; I was able to go from an A1C of 11.7 to an A1C of 4.7 in less than a year. I also have reduced my medications to almost nothing. I am thinking of trying without but I want to talk to my doctor first.

But my experiment took a turn several months ago. I was trying a product called Mistica from Synergy Worldwide and had decided to try the whole V3 system. It had most of the vitamins and minerals I was adding to my antioxidant. I than began to study the main product of the V3 system called ProAri 9. This product is a complex mixture of products with the key ingredient of L-arginine.

L-arginine produces nitric oxide in the body which does amazing things for our circulator system. Heart disease and or circulation are the leading cause of complication for people with diabetes. Dr. Louis J. Ignarro won the Noble Prize in 1998 for the discovery of the importance of nitric oxide and what it does to our cardiovascular system. He has published a book about his findings called No More Heart Disease. (The link to this book is in my previous post) This is a great read for anyone concerned about heart disease and it should be for all of us, because 50% of Americans will suffer heart complication sometime in their life.

Anyway I started the V3 system the first January 2009 and have been amazed at how much better I feel. At first I was concerned because the ProArgi 9 would spike my blood sugar but now it does not affect it much. I am now just taking the V3 system without any other vitamins or minerals, except alpha lipid acid which is not in the V3 and is important to people with diabetes. The taste is not as good as some of the other products I tried but a minor trade of for better health.

All people with diabetes react differently to different foods, nutrient and medications so it may not work the same for everyone. Whether you have diabetes or not the Synergy Worldwide V3 system has the proper blend needed for a health body.

Sense I have been checking these products out I have heard some amazing stories from people taking products from all the companies I have mentioned. People are getting help from their poor health or medical problems. So why can’t the government and medical groups endorse these products and stop providing everyone with medications with terrible side effects. Many are skeptical of Multi Level Marketing products but I will assure you that I have found results and millions of others have too.

Diabetes and or heart disease will affect you or someone near you in your life. Whether you have been diagnosed or not, now is the time to make a difference. I am on a quest to tell every person I can about what I have experienced. If you want to know more about my experience with diabetes and the products I take please e-mail me at stevefeller21@msn.com and tell me what you want to know. If you want to talk to me e-mail your phone number and I will call you as soon as I can. I would leave a number but I do work everyday and would most likely not be able to talk.

I hope this article will find the people that are looking for a healthier way to control diabetes, heart disease or just a better life.

MLM Products - Good or Bad

If you have read any of this blog you have heard that I have helped control my diabetes with a product called Kyani Sunrise. This product has really made a difference but I am not the Multi Level Marketing type of person. I hate going to meeting and asking people to try products.

In December I decided to stop taking Kyani Sunrise because of the cost. By the end of January my blood glucose levels started getting out of whack. I had been keeping my numbers between 80 and 160. At this point I was hitting mid 60s if I went more than 5 hours eating and was having many more spikes into the 200s.

So in the end of February I got back on Kyani Sunrise and guess what my numbers are back to normal.

So even though I hate MLM and I am sure there are many that feel the same way, many of the products do work. But finding the right compnay and right product is key. Kyani is a great company and I do like the product but I am looking into something else.

If you are going to use or distribute MLM products, why not find a company that fits your needs. I currently have been investagating a company called Synergy Worlwide.

It has a good antioxidant similar to Kyani but I am intreged about a product called Proargi-9. This is a product has a component called L-arginine. L-arginine is best known for its cardiovascular benefits. In the body, l-arginine is converted to nitric oxide, which relaxes the blood vessels. This reduces stress on the heart and improves circulation. L-arginine is the body's major source for nitric oxide synthesis. Without nitric oxide, human life would not be possible. L-arginine also reduces blood viscosity. Scientific studies have shown that l-arginine significantly reduces blood pressure levels.

One of the biggest complication from diabetes is congestive heart disease and constricted blood flow.

I started taking this product about 30 days ago and I have seen a boost in my energy level. I am currently looking to make the switch to Synergy Worldwide, so I am not dealing with two MLM companies.

Anyone have experience with Synergy?
